shell the pearls

we shell the pearls
skin the slight of our eyes
hearts rise where they can in whatever pitiful crevice is left
our mouths or genitals or both
hearts lie here and grow, grow, grow
like mold exposed to the warm, moist air

they say to let your words out
let them grow towards the light, towards the love
they know that the words fall out
fall and crawl towards the gutters, towards the death

so hide away your hearts in the silence you create
each day this is your gift to the earth
rip the dress off the cutting of eyes against you
each day this is your duty by birth

let them know
that you live
not for them
not for you
not for him

let them see
that you die
all for her
all her eyes
all over
